Born in Chicago on September 25, , Sheldon Allan Silverstein grew up to attain an enormous public following, but always preferred to say little about himself. As a restless child with an overactive imagination, this poem spoke directly to the wanderlust in my heart. These books and other children's fare sum up his legacy for many fans — they read the stories and poems to children and grandchildren, maybe even grew up on Silverstein's poetry themselves. You may not have heard his odd voice on your top radio station, but Silverstein had a recording career, too, in which he sang some of the songs he wrote. The guru is deffinately right, too.
